Literature under the guidelines of Mao's principles

There is a large literary repertoire under Mao's principles on literature and art after the founding of the PRC and during the Cultural Revolution. These literary works served as one of the main sources of propaganda, loaded with praises for the Communist Party and the savior Chairman Mao. In fact, it would be hard to find a novel, short story, or poem that does not have a praise or two inserted somewhere in the conversations or monologues.

However, I'm not sure if there are any English translations of the works from this period.

Someone asked in class if there was literature during that period of history that ran against Mao's principles. I personally never saw or read any piece. It would be extremely dangerous to the author if such literary works somehow surfaced in one way or another. It would be considered counterrevolutionary and the author would immediately become a condemned public enemy.
