Offerings to the deity in a temple or in a puja at home

See the article by Appadurai that I posted on UBLearns -- if the deity is a person, and if he is the lord before whom the devotee may bow, then he is also the lord to whom food must be offered before the devotee partakes of it.

In a domestic puja, food would be offered and consecrated in the process of offering, and then eaten by the family.

In a temple, depending on how efficient its administration is, the food would then be served to devotees, typically once at lunch and then freshly cooked food, consecrated all over again, served at dinner.
