More about The Last Train Home

This is the third time I posted this comment. For some reason, the first two posts didn't go through.

If you were fascinated by the documentary as I was, you might want to read the following two books that present a fuller picture of how migrants in China live and survive. The first book follows some young girls working in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen while the second book chronicles some college students who joined the army of migrants after graduation.

1. Factory Girls: From Village to City in a Changing China, by Leslie T. Chang.

2. Oracle Bones: A Journey Between China's Past and Present, by Peter Hessler.

Both of the authors were correspondents in China and know China inside out. Hessler has written a few other books about China that are fun to read.

  1. Those books are both great.
Let me also offer Country Driving, also by Peter Hessler.
In one of the sections of the books, he looks at A single factory and its workers as a case study.
