I watched most episodes in this series and like it so much. Michael Wood also made a series on China.
Both of the documentaries are worth watching for this purpose of this institute, if not for something else. They could at least serve as a comprehensive primer about these two enormous countries with a loaded canon of history to digest.
I own this series and it is amazing. However, its difficult to show in class and know where to stop and start. If you google PBS: The Story of India and click on photos, you will see video clips embedded in the on-line textual information. This is very easy to use in class! I use this website A LOT.
